Wedding Dress Tips For Your Destination Wedding

Are you planning a destination wedding? Destination weddings are a lot of fun for both the bride and groom and the people attending your wedding! If you are going far enough to have to travel by airplane, something you may not have considered yet is how you will transport your wedding dress. After you find the perfect wedding gown at our bridal boutique in Royal Palm Beach, the last thing you want to happen is for it to get damaged in transit - or worse, lost! That's why today, your favorite bridal store in South Florida has some advice for getting your wedding dress safely to your destination wedding.

Don't take your eyes off of it!

You bridal gown is most definitely an item that you do not want to pack away with your checked baggage. Keep it with you as a carry-on item. That is the only way to ensure that it will not get lost in transit and end up where you are not.

Once on the plane, most flight attendants will be happy to help you find a safe spot for your dress. Occasionally they can find room to hang it up. If there is space in the overhead bin to lay it flat, that will work nicely too. If not, gently fold it in half and place it up there.

Some brides have gone as far as to buy their gown a plane ticket so that it can sit next to them the entire way. If you don't want to spend money for that, it never hurts to ask if there are any open seats on the plane. If the flight isn't full, they may be more than happy to let your dress use one of the empty seats.

Pack it safely.

If you do not want to carry it separately in a garment bag or must pack it inside of your carry-on bag, keep it protected. Make sure there is nothing in your suitcase that could leak and stain the dress. One way to keep wrinkling to a minimum is to fold layers of tissue paper in the dress. All important items that you absolutely need on the wedding day should be included in your carry-on luggage: shoes, jewelry, heirloom items, the marriage license, etc...

Once you arrive at your destination, hang the gown up as soon as possible. If a steamer is not available, you can hang it in the bathroom with a shower running on full blast with the hottest water possible. The steam will release those wrinkles, but you will want to be very careful to keep water away from the gown, and check on it periodically to make sure everything is okay.

Keep travel in mind while shopping.

When you come in for your wedding dress shopping appointment at our South Florida bridal boutique, let us know that you are planning a destination wedding. This will make a difference in the type of gowns that you will want to try on. If it won't travel easily, it's best to skip that dress.
