5 Dress Shopping Myths You Probably Believe

Dress shopping is one of the most thrilling parts of wedding planning. Many young girls dream of their future wedding dresses from a very young age, and now as engaged women, they finally get to bring those fantasies to life.

Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches is proud and honored to get to play a role in your journey as you turn your lifelong fantasy into reality. However, we hope you realize that while many of your expectations will probably come to pass, you probably have other expectations that, as you may soon learn, are not quite as grounded in reality. The truth is that there are a lot of different misconceptions about shopping for a wedding dress. This week, our bridal salon in West Palm Beach is here to help set the record straight.

Myth #1: You Should Know Exactly What Type Of Gown You Want
There is an underlying expectation that brides should know exactly what type of gown they want when they come in for their first bridal appointment. While having done some prior research is definitely helpful, there is no rule stating that brides must know exactly what they want ahead of time. Honestly, it is almost impossible to know for sure what type of dress is right for you until you have tried on a few different styles.

Myth #2: You Can Buy The Same Dress Online For A Better Price
This is one of the most heartbreaking myths we see on a regular basis. It is not uncommon for thrifty brides to try on dresses at a bridal salon, find the one they want, and then go hunting online for the same dress at a cheaper price. However, it is important to realize that reputable wedding designers often do not allow their dresses to be sold online - they can only be purchased at authorized retailers. The dress you find online will most likely be a knock-off. In exchange for a cheaper price, the gown will likely be lacking in quality.

Myth #3: Your Wedding Dress Must Be White
If you're like most people, white is probably the color that automatically comes to mind when you imagine a wedding dress. However, the truth is that modern brides have complete authority to choose whatever color they want for their wedding gowns. Champagne and ivory are extremely popular shades currently, but if you so desire, you can push past these trends as well. It is your wedding, and ultimately you are free to choose whatever color gown you wish.

Myth #4: You'll Shed Tears When You Find "The One"
There is a stereotypical expectation that brides become extremely teary during the dress shopping process - especially when they try on the perfect dress. However, as most people know, the tendency to cry varies drastically from woman to woman. While some women may shed tears with every dress they try on, others may keep completely dry eyes throughout the entire process. Rather than waiting for the dress that brings tears to your eyes, focus on how each gown makes you feel. When you try on a dress that makes you feel absolutely stunning, chances are you've found the right gown.

Myth #5: The More, The Merrier
While bringing some of the people closest to you to assist with the process can be very helpful, less is often more when it comes to selecting your dress shopping entourage. We recommend bringing only 2-4 people with you to your bridal appointment. If you bring more than that, you may become overwhelmed by the myriad of different opinions presented. Choose a few of the people in your innermost circle and leave it at that.
