8 Secrets To Save Money On Your Wedding

Weddings are big-ticket events. While some couples are able to spend less than $10,000 on their weddings, CostOfWedding.com states that the average price tag on weddings in the United States is $26,645. Most couples spend between $19,984 and $33,306. In Palm Beach specifically, Cost Of Wedding estimates that most couples spend between $23,538 and $39,230.

With so many dollars involved, it's no surprise that many couples look for opportunities to save money wherever they can. This week, Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches is here to help with these simple money-saving secrets.

1. Reduce The Guest List
The single most effective way to save money on your wedding is to reduce the guest list. Cost Of Wedding estimates that in the Palm Beach area, couples will end up paying between $174 and $213 per guest. By reducing your guest list, you can in turn reduce the amount of food, beverages, and favors you have to purchase. If you reduce your guest list enough, you may also be able to shop smaller (and thus more affordable) venue options.

2. Get Married During The Week
Since Saturday is the most popular day of the week to get married, venues can get away with charging more for them. By booking your wedding on a different day of the week (even a Friday or a Sunday) you could potentially save thousands of dollars. Ask your venue if they offer discounted rates for weekdays.

3. Get Married During The Off-Season
Just as the day of the week has a big impact on your overall wedding costs, so does the time of year you get married. During peak season, both venues and vendors typically charge significantly more for their services. By scheduling your wedding during the off-season, you'll likely get access to significant discounts (and better availability).

4. Select In-Season Flowers
If you aren't careful, flowers can rack up a rather significant bill. The best way to reduce the costs of your floral arrangement is to select flowers that are in-season in your area. Opting for flowers with large blooms is another money-saving tactic, since you'll have to pay for fewer stems that way.

5. Explore Your Venue Options
Banquet halls and traditional venues have their advantages, but they are also often very expensive. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and look for other options like state parks, beaches, city parks, college campuses, and nice restaurants. These alternative venues are often much more affordable - and still offer beautiful settings for your ceremony, reception, or both.

6. Plan To Reuse
Whenever possible, look for wedding items that you'll be able to reuse in daily life. Your shoes and jewelry are great examples. Instead of dropping $100 (or more) on a pair of shoes you'll only wear on your wedding day, select ones that you'll be able to wear at other events after you are married. While your chosen shoes and jewelry may still be expensive, you'll be able to justify the cost by knowing that you'll wear them multiple times.

7. Hire A Coordinator
Hiring a professional to save money may seem counter-intuitive, but the truth is that working with a wedding coordinator may be your best way to save money. Your coordinator plans weddings for a living - she has years of experience working with budget-conscious brides and knows the best tricks of the trade to keep costs down.

8. Shop For Bargains... Everywhere
Before heading to your favorite department store for decorations, glasses, dinnerware, favors, and other wedding necessities, look for more cost-effective options. Etsy, Craigslist, eBay, and thrift stores are excellent ways to find more affordable (and sometimes even more charming) options.

5 Ways To Give Back To Your Bridesmaids

Being asked to be a bridesmaid is a great honor, but it can also be a lot of work and - let's be honest - expensive. It is not uncommon for modern bridesmaids to cover the costs of their dresses, shoes, hair, makeup, transportation, and lodging. Having your sisters, cousins, and best friend stand next to you on your special day is a wonderful tradition, but it's nice to be considerate of your bridesmaids when asking them to take part in your big day. Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches is here to offer a few simple ways to show your bridesmaids how much you appreciate them.

1. Be Considerate Of Their Budgets

Before you begin shopping for bridesmaid dresses, talk to each of your girls and find out what their budget is. If you expect them to cover the cost of their dresses, it is only courteous to be respectful of their budgeting needs. Find out what the maximum budget is for each of them, and then try to find dresses that are at or below the lowest price.

2. Pitch In On The Extras

While it is acceptable to request that your bridesmaids cover the cost of their own dresses, shoes, and other expenses, offering to pitch in with other costs as your own budget allows can be a wonderful gesture. Offering to cover the cost of your bridesmaids' hair and/or makeup, for example, can be a relatively inexpensive way to make things easier on your bridesmaids and show them how much you appreciate them being a part of your special day.

3. Ask For Their Opinions

Remember, you aren't the one who will be wearing your bridesmaid dresses of choice - they are! Before shopping different options, talk to each of your girls to find out what their preferences are. Allowing too many options can make the decision process unnecessarily overwhelming, though, so instead of asking what they want to wear, find out if there is anything they absolutely do not want to wear. Learning what is on their "no-fly lists" will help you avoid making selections that will make anyone feel uncomfortable.

4. Allow Them To Pick Their Own Styles

If you're like most brides, your bridal party isn't made up of models with the exact same bodies. Whether your girls are short and tall, curvy and rail-thin, or tan and fair-skinned, most bridal parties are made up of women with a variety of different figures and skin types. Opting for the mismatched bridal party look is a great way to allow each of your bridesmaids to choose a dress they feel great in. Here are a few of our favorite options:
  • Allowing each bridesmaid to select the neckline for her specific dress.
  • Choosing a single color, and allowing each bridesmaid to choose what style of dress she wants.
  • Choosing a single dress, and allowing each bridesmaid to choose the color that hers will be.

5. Give Them Gifts

If your own budget allows, giving each of your bridesmaid a present on your big day can be a nice way to show how much you care. The possibilities for bridesmaid gifts are practically endless. If you want to give them something that relates to the wedding day, ideas can include jewelry they will wear during the ceremony and reception or cozy robes to wear while getting ready. If you don't have your heart set on giving a gift that directly relates to the wedding, the sky is the limit - tote bags, makeup cases, wall art, or anything else you can imagine!

5 Wedding Gown Shopping Mistakes To Avoid

It's no surprise that shopping for the perfect wedding dress is our favorite part of the wedding planning process. There is something truly magical about slipping into the perfect dress for the first time, and we love being able to help all our brides-to-be get to this perfect moment.

While there isn't really a wrong way to go about shopping for your perfect wedding gown, there are certain things you can do to make the process simpler. On the flip side, there are also things you can do that may make the process more challenging than it needs to be. This week, our experienced bridal gown consultant in Palm Beach is here to simplify your gown shopping experience by sharing with you some of the mistakes we have identified over the years. By knowing what mistakes to avoid upfront, you should be able to find your perfect dress much more easily.

1. Shopping Too Soon
Of course you're excited to start shopping for your perfect dress, but beginning the process too early may pose challenges. We recommend scheduling your first appointment no earlier than twelve months in advance. It is wise to wait to try on dresses until you are ready to make a purchase, in case you find your dream dress on your first day. It is also smart to shop for wedding gowns after you have chosen your venue, so that you can choose a dress that will accommodate your venue's style. That being said, you also don't want to wait too long before beginning shopping, since you'll need to allow time for your gown to come in and for alterations to be made. Shopping 12-6 months before your wedding date should be a safe compromise.

2. Ordering The Wrong Size
Practically every bride plans to lose weight before her big day, and many wish to order their wedding gowns one or two sizes smaller to show off their new bodies. However, we recommend ordering the size that fits you currently. Wedding dresses can often be taken in up to four sizes without affecting the look of the gowns, but they may only be able to let out one size. This means that it should be easy to take a gown in to fit if you do lose weight, but it will also still fit even if you don't meet your weight loss goal. Also, be aware that wedding dresses tend to run one or two sizes smaller than ordinary street clothes - don't get hung up on the number!

3. Trying On Too Many Dresses
At a certain point, trying on dress after dress won't be as much fun anymore. If you try on too many dresses, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the decision that lies in front of you. If you find a dress you love, stop. You don't need to complicate matters by trying on additional dresses and then forcing yourself to make a tough decision.

4. Bringing Too Many People With You
It's usually a good idea (and fun!) to bring a couple people with you to your bridal appointment. It's great to be able to share the excitement with your mom, sister, or best friend, and having other people their to share their opinions can be helpful. However, bringing too many people with you often makes things unnecessarily complicated, as juggling multiple opinions can be overwhelming and stressful. We recommend bringing a maximum of 2-3 people with you.

5. Getting Hung Up On A Specific Style
Time and time again, we have seen brides eagerly pull out their smartphones to show us pictures of their favorite gown styles, anxious to try items from our selection that match those styles. Unfortunately, many styles may not look the same on your body that they do in pictures. If the reality of your chosen style doesn't match your fantasy, don't get discouraged. The perfect dress for you is still out there, and it's our mission to help you find it!

6 Things No One Told You About Wedding Dress Shopping

Wedding dress shopping is a rite of passage - an experience that many girls begin dreaming about from a very young age. While many aspects of the shopping experience will live up to your dreams and expectations, other aspects may surprise you. Keep reading to learn more about the realities of wedding dress shopping, courtesy of Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches.

1. There May Be More Than One "Perfect Dress"
Many brides-to-be are enamored with the idea of finding "the" dress. While it's true that there is a single perfect wedding gown out there for many women, many other women find that they are torn between two (or even three or four) equally flattering gowns. In these instances, it will be up to you (and your best friend, of course) to decide which gown will be the best fit. Our experienced bridal consultant in Palm Beach can help you along the way.

2. You Can't Judge A Dress By Its Hanger
Like books, wedding dresses often look very different at first glance. It is not uncommon for certain gowns to look less than flattering when draped on the hanger, but to then look fabulous once they being worn. Don't make the mistake of bypassing your dream gown because you judged it for its appearance on the hanger. If your consultant recommends a certain dress for you, it is often worth taking the time to try it on before making a decision.

3. There Is No Way To Predict Your Emotions
Stereotypically, wedding dress shopping is considered a magical event that inspires everyone - brides and entourages included - to shed a few happy tears at some point. While many brides and their friends and family do become weepy at times, not everyone will. We have seen many emotional brides maintain surprisingly dry eyes throughout their bridal appointment. By the same token, many emotionally stable brides feel overcome when they find the perfect dress. There is no right or wrong way to respond to dress shopping - cut yourself some slack and simply embrace the emotions that arise.

4. You May Not Make A Decision On Your First Shopping Trip
The gown shopping experience is one that most brides look forward to with great anticipation. It's perfectly okay to be excited - you should be excited - but don't get hung up on the idea of finding the perfect gown the first day you try on dresses. It may take a couple different trips (possibly to a couple different stores) to find the gown that really speaks to you. Or, if you're torn between multiple dresses as we discussed earlier, it may take you a couple different trips to hone in on a decision.

5. Shopping When Hungry Is Never A Good Idea
Of course you want to look your best before going dress shopping, but don't make the mistake of starving yourself in the morning or afternoon before your bridal appointment. It's important to eat a balanced breakfast (and lunch if your appointment is in the afternoon). Getting in and out of multiple gowns can be both physically and emotionally tiring. Beginning the process on an empty stomach will only serve to make the process harder.

6. Your Idea Of The Perfect Dress May Change Drastically
After browsing Pinterest for hours, you'll come into your bridal appointment armed with pictures of your dream wedding gown. You'll try on a dress that matches your vision, and it might really be perfect - or it might not be. Many brides are sad and frustrated to learn that the gown they thought would be perfect looks less than flattering once it's on. Try not to be discouraged. If the gown type you thought you wanted does not look as you imagined, your bridal consultant will be able to help you find a stunning alternative.
