The Do's and Don'ts of Wedding Thank You Cards

When your wedding is over and you've returned from your honeymoon, your duties as the bride aren't quite over yet. You know all those wonderful gifts that everyone gave you? Show your gratitude by sending out thank you cards. Today's blog from your favorite bridal boutique in South Florida offers some advice on do's and don'ts when it comes to those wedding thank yous.

Wedding Thank You Card Do's

Here are a few things you want to make sure you do when writing out your thank you cards.

1. Start writing the cards early.
Depending on how many attendees you had at your wedding, and those that didn't attend, but sent gifts, you're likely going to have a lot of thank you notes to write. Start early, like as soon as you get back from your honeymoon, and don't try to get them all done in one day.

2. Make each thank you card personalized.
While it may take extra time, it's important add at least one personal note about the gift someone gave you. This seems much more grateful and less like an obligation.

3. Include your new spouse.
The gifts were for the both of you, in celebration of your union together. Therefore, be sure to include your new spouse in the thank you card writing process. You can divide and conquer, and avoid going crazy with all those thank yous.

4. Use your best handwriting.
While it may get tiresome writing all those thank you notes, don't let your handwriting get sloppy. It might be best to spread out the notes over a few days so that you don't get burnt out and lazy.

Wedding Thank You Card Don'ts

Below are a few things you want to make sure not to do when it comes time to write your thank you cards.

1. Don't wait too long to send out thank you cards.
Be sure to send out your thank you cards in a timely manner. Ideally, you should send them out within 12 weeks of the wedding. If you plan to use a photo from the wedding with the card, be sure to order prints as soon as your photos are received.

2. Don't overthink it; keep it simple.
You don't have to write a short novel to show your gratitude. Keep the cards to about 4 sentences. These people already know how special they are to you because you asked them to be a part of your big day!

3. Don't forget to send cards to those who gave cash.
Weddings are expensive, and so are honeymoons, so sometimes cash is the best gift of all that you can receive. When writing your thank yous, don't forget to include those people who gave you cash - and be sure to let them know how you plan on spending (or saving) the money.

4. Don't forget to send thank yous to everyone who attended.
Whether your wedding guests got you a gift or not, it's important to acknowledge their attendance and thank them for coming. Often times if you have a destination wedding, them spending the money to get their is enough.
