Body Types - Which Dress Will Look Best?

Everyone deserves to feel beautiful on their wedding day! Of course, the best way to look your best on you your big day is to find the wedding dress that fits you perfectly! Let's face it, not everyone has the same body type and your wedding dress should complement your best features. If you're wondering which dress style would look best on your body type, our bridal boutique in South Florida has some advice!

What's Your Body Type?

Women's bodies are beautifully diverse. Realistically, it is impossible to lump all of body types into a few simple categories. Since it would be equally impossible to discuss all of these body types in a single post, however, we are going to focus on four general shapes for the purpose of today's blog: hourglass, petite, plus size, and lean. Keep reading to learn what styles of dresses may best fit each of these body types.

Petite

If you consider yourself petite, we recommend that you steer clear big, extravagant ball gowns so as to not overwhelm your small frame. You may also want to avoid belts and other horizontal lines, as they could make you seem shorter. Sheath dresses with simple accents typically work well for petite women. If you want a little extra flair, you could also consider a mermaid silhouette.

Plus Size

If you fall in the plus size category, you will get to choose whether you want a gown that accentuates or minimizes your curves. Sweetheart necklines are often extremely flattering on women with this body type. A-line silhouettes that accent your narrowest point or mermaid silhouettes that hug your curves may also be good options. If you would prefer to minimize your curves, a ballgown silhouette may be more forgiving.

Lean

This body shape is sometime referred to as "straight" or "rectangle." Women with this body type generally find that their hips, waist, and bust are relatively equal in size. You can accentuate your body's best features by opting for gowns with eye-catching necklines, such as a V-neck, off-the-shoulder, or halter. Fit and flare or ballgown silhouettes can also be used to create additional lines.
