What To Bring To Your Wedding Dress Appointment

The first dress shopping appointment is one of the most exciting moments in a bride's life. It is often the time that really brings the engagement to life - the time that the dream of getting married finally starts to feel real. At Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches, we recognize what a momentous event your bridal appointment is, and we strive to do everything we can to ensure that your experience is everything you hoped it would be. This week, we're here to help you prepare for your day by offering this quick list of things you should bring to your appointment.

Pictures Of Gowns You Like
A picture is worth a thousand words. Our bridal gown consultant in Palm Beach FL is here to help you find the dress that perfectly matches your vision for your wedding, but we need your help to do it. Browse photos of wedding dresses prior to your appointment, and bring your favorites in to show us. We can help you find the gowns that will match the style you like.

Hair Ties/Clips
As you try on multiple dresses, your consultant will clip each one to match your dimensions. This process will be much easier if your long locks aren't in the way, so we recommend bringing hair clips or ties to pull your hair up into a bun as you try on each dress. You can always take your hair out to see what the dress looks like with your hair down once the dress is on.

Proper Undergarments
Wedding gowns are often complex garments with multiple layers of fabric and accents. Our bridal consultant will assist you in putting on each dress, so you'll want to wear modest undergarments you will feel comfortable wearing in front of her. The undergarments you choose should be similar to the ones you plan to wear on your actual wedding day, as they can affect the way your dress fits. We recommend wearing nude bikini panties or boy shorts and a nude strapless bra. You may not need your bra when wearing certain dresses, however; many wedding gowns have support already built in to the bust area.

The Right Shoes
Like undergarments, shoes can drastically impact the way a wedding gown fits. If you don't have your exact wedding shoes picked out yet, wear heels that are comparable to the height you plan on wearing at your wedding. The heel height will affect the length of the gown and the way it lays.

People You Trust
Your wedding dress shopping entourage will be a valuable sounding board for you as you try on different dresses. Ideally, your entourage should consist of a few people (typically not more than four or five) whose opinions you trust. We recommend bringing the same people to each appointment so that their tastes can evolve along with yours. See our earlier blog post for help picking the people to include in your wedding dress shopping entourage.

An Open Mind
This may not be a tangible item, but it is arguably the most important thing to bring to your dress shopping appointment. We have seen it time and time again - a bride comes in for her appointment with her heart set on a specific type of dress, and then she is disappointed when it doesn't fit exactly how she had envisioned. Your original plan may not work out quite the way you imagine it, but a dress of a different style may absolutely take your breath away. By keeping your mind open to all possibilities, you will be able to find your dream dress much more easily.
