Wedding Dress Shopping: The Ultimate Checklist

Let's face it... there's a lot that goes into perfecting your bridal look. There are literally hundreds of wedding dress styles to choose from - not to mention the countless other choices you'll have to make about wedding dress accessories, underpinnings, bridal veils, shoes, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hairpieces, and other adornments.

In order to keep yourself from feeling totally overwhelmed, you have to have a solid game plan. Bridal Couture of the Palm Beaches is here to help you stay organized and on track with this simple, no-nonsense wedding dress shopping checklist.

Step 1 - Identify Your Budget
Before you begin actively searching for wedding gowns, you need to have a realistic understanding of how much you can afford to spend. If you skip this step, you risk falling in love with a dress that is way out of your price range, which only causes unnecessary stress and heartache.

Step 2 - Organize Your Favorites
Create a binder or Pinterest board with pictures of various gown styles you like. This board can serve as inspiration for when you begin dress hunting in earnest, and it can be a helpful way to communicate your ideas to your dress consultant (and your friends and family as well).

Step 3 - Pick Your Venue
The venue you choose will significantly influence the style of dress you want for your wedding. After all, an extravagant ballgown might look a little out of place at a barefoot beach wedding! Where you think you want to get married may change a few times, so do yourself a favor and lock in your venue before going dress shopping.

Step 4 - Choose Your Wedding Date
The time of year you get married will impact the type of dress you wear. A light, breezy dress will likely be a better fit for a wedding in the heat of summer, for example, whereas a heavier ballgown may be ideal for a winter affair. Your venue and your date will likely go hand-in-hand, so you should be able to cross these two steps off your list at the same time.

Step 5 - Start Shopping Twelve Months In Advance
While you want to make sure these other details are taken care of before you begin actively dress shopping, you still need to give yourself plenty of time to find the perfect dress. You should plan on ordering your dress at least 8-10 months before your big day in order to allow plenty of time for fittings and adjustments.

Step 6 - Finalize Your Undergarments
The dress you choose will impact the type of undergarments you need, as many gowns have built-in corsets, bras, and/or shapewear. It's important to select your undergarments well in advance so that you can wear them to your fittings, as they will impact the way your gown fits.

Step 7 - Choose Your Shoes
Your shoes are another important detail that should be identified several months in advance. The height of the heel you choose (or whether or not you opt for flats) will strongly influence how long you want your gown to be, so it's best to choose your shoes several months in advance. Don't forget to wear them to your dress fittings.

Step 8 - Choose Your Accessories
Last but certainly not least, you'll get to choose the accessories you wish to use to complete your bridal look. Veils, hairpieces, headdresses, belts, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are all at your disposal. If you want to wear several pieces for your big day, we recommend that you choose accessories that are a bit more understated. If you are drawn to a larger, more eye-catching piece, you may want to showcase it by making it your only accessory.

  1. White snow : it is a radiant white but without that bluish hue, the color of snow. It is the most similar to pure white, although it is still a not very popular color. Undoubtedly, brides with dark skin tone, bet on this white!
