Wedding Day Timeline

Your wedding day will be one of the best days of your life! To ensure that your day goes smoothly with minimal stress, it's important to create a wedding day timeline. Of course, your timeline won't always play out exactly as you planned it but it's a good idea to have one so you and your guest have an idea of what will be going on when. Not sure how to create a wedding day timeline? No problem - our bridal boutique in Royal Palm Beaches has a few tips to consider!

1. Create a Timeline from Scratch.

Sure, you can Google wedding day timelines and come up with plenty of options. However, your wedding day is a unique situation, created just for you. Instead of trying to copy someone else's timeline and make changes, you should start your wedding day timeline from scratch. Use your ceremony time for a starting point, then add in events and tasks that need to be completed prior to that time and after that time.

2. Allow Plenty of Extra Time.

When creating a wedding timeline, even if your wedding isn't until the evening, think early! You want to allow plenty of time to prepare for the ceremony and the reception. There's no such thing as getting ready too soon - hair and makeup can take a long time. Pictures are bound to take more time than you think, especially if you want them taken at more than one location. Be prepared for a long, but awesome day!

3. Consult a Wedding Planner & Event Coordinator.

It's your special day and you need to be able to enjoy it. Consult a wedding planner or event coordinator when creating your timeline. They have the knowledge and experience to advise you on how long certain tasks and events should take. These experts are key in making your wedding day a success! Not only can they help you in the pre-wedding planning, but they'll be there the day of to make sure your wedding timeline runs smoothly. You won't have to worry about keeping everyone on track because your event coordinator will keep things moving the way they should.

Other Things to Keep in Mind

When creating your timeline, there are few things to keep in mind, some things that are out of your control. Here's a list of considerations to contemplate and questions to ask yourself as you're organizing the timeline:
  • Guests will arrive early; be sure to have everything ready to go no less than 30 minutes prior to the ceremony start time.
  • Do you want to have a receiving line?
  • If you have separate venues for the ceremony and reception, the time for transportation and logistics will need to be added into your timeline.
  • What time can you get into the reception hall and by what time do you have to be out of it?
  • The ideal length for a reception is about 6 hours: an hour for cocktails, 2 hours for dinner and 3 hours for dancing!
  • How many hours does your photography package cover?
  • Do you want a long or short cocktail hour?
  • Don't make your guests wait too long to eat. If you can't get to the reception quickly due to photos, etc. be sure to have some hors d'oeuvres to keep your guests occupied.
  • How many people are giving toasts?
  • Are you doing a first dance, father/daughter dance and mother/son dance?
  • How long/late will the DJ or band play?
  • Are you playing any games at the reception, doing a bouquet toss or garter throw?

Each of these pieces of your wedding day puzzle are going to take time to complete, so be sure to add details to your timeline. Just don't get too carried away planning things down to the very minute.
